Humble Return

I’ll go when the time is called,

Leaving behind the salt of my pain and my sins.

I have carried these sins through the mud of the world

Until the hem of my soul is heavy and dark.

It is so lonely here,

That I made a friend of the cold wind.

Now that I’ve arrived at your door

I am afraid to look up.

Will “You” accept me?

I am heavy, stained with the dust of my wrongs.

Will “You” forgive this hardened,

Piteous soul that was once so very long ago lost?

If I am too dirty to be touched,

Will “you” at least

Let me sleep in the shadow of Your gate?
