KUCHING, 18th January 2025: A 16-year-old without a license has killed five other road users and caused multiple injuries to others in an accident on 14th January at Jalan Teo Kui Seng-Stutong Baru, Kuching.
According to the Kuching District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, the suspect had lost control of his vehicle and veered into the opposite lane at around 12:50 PM.
He then collided with a Proton Saga, a Toyota Altis and two motorcycles, killing four on the spot. The final victim, a 16-year-old motorcyclist passed away while receiving treatment at the Sarawak General Hospital.
Two of the deceased victims were passengers of the Proton Saga, while the driver of the Toyota Altis survived. Three other survivors are hospitalized for their injuries.
The suspect, who survived with neck injuries, will be detained as soon as he has received the necessary medical treatment.
The case will be investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act for causing deaths by reckless driving. The suspect, who has no road license, will either face imprisonment for a duration not less than five years and not more than 10 years.
