GOMBAK, 19th January 2024: The highly anticipated event by the Bachelor of English Language and Literature (BENL) students, BENL Elegant Starry Night, was held on 14th January 2024 at Banquet Hall, IIUM. The event was organised by the Secretariat of English Language and Literature (ELITS).
This annual grand dinner was held to recognise the achievements of the previous tenure of ELITS, celebrate the newly appointed ELITS lineup, and cherish the BENL community as a whole.
The former chairperson of ELITS, Sr. Fathin Naufal, expressed gratitude towards her team members who helped ease her journey as a chairperson in her speech. She left an encouraging message to the new ELITS lineup, saying, “Remember, the strength of our organisation lies in the unity of its members. Continue to support each other, embrace new ideas, and strive for greatness.”

The event continued with speeches from the advisor of ELITS, Dr. Homam Altabaa, and the Head of the Department, Dr. Tanja Jonid.
Appreciation for the previous tenure was done through an award-giving ceremony for the mainboards and each bureau of ELITS for their excellent contributions.

Another award session was also held for the founding members of The BENL Chronicles (TBC), a team that publishes creative writings under ELITS.

BENL students were entertained with delightful performances of a piano duet by Br. Fayadh and a serenade by Br. Naufal, which enlivened the night.

The participants of the night perked up with engaging activities such as a lucky draw and a ‘How BENL are You?’ quiz, in which the latter questioned their knowledge of English classics, English movie references, and many more.
The new lineup for ELITS was then introduced, followed by an enlightening speech by the current chairperson of ELITS, Sr. Shahira.

By the end of the night, prizes were awarded for the best dressed that stayed true to the theme of a starry night.

Various meals and delicacies, such as ayam masak merah, kek batik, and cocktails, were served on the scene for the participants’ pleasure.
The event ended with a photography session with the participants and VIPs of the night. It is hoped that the BENL students will meet again under another starry night to celebrate each other’s hopes, dreams, and achievements.
