YOKOHAMA, 20th November 2024: Yokohama police are looking into the death of a 75-year-old man, whose body was discovered in his own home on Wednesday.

According to police, Hiroharu Goto, the victim, had his hands and feet restrained and several injuries all over his body, as reported by Nippon Hōsō Kyōkai (NHK). When a neighbour reported that the window next to the front door had been shattered since Tuesday, at approximately 9:30 a.m. on the 16th of Wednesday, 110 was notified, leading to the discovery of his death.

According to the police, the front door was left unlocked, and a damaged bay window was big enough for a person to slip through.

Several footprints were discovered inside the residence, as well as numerous dressers and other objects that had obvious evidence of having been opened and looted.

The similarities in the methods used in this crime and a house invasion that happened in Shirai City, Chiba Prefecture, on the same day have the Kanagawa Prefectural Police investigating a potential link.

Police believe that over the past three months, a gang of thieves that they suspect were recruited through mobile phone applications has committed a number of robberies and assaults during house invasions in the Kanto region and nearby locations.—TBC
