KUALA LUMPUR, 29 July 2023: A man was caught trying to molest a 27-year-old woman waiting for the train to arrive at the Maluri LRT station.
A video went viral on Twitter and TikTok as it showed that a man in a black shirt sexually assaulted a woman who was waiting for the train at the platform. The incident was reported to have occurred around 8 am on Friday, 28 July.
In the video, the woman can be heard screaming in terror as the perpetrator held her until the crowd came to help her. The men were seen struggling to pull the guy off the victim as he was forcibly hugging the woman on the floor.
The victim managed to flee after the group punched the man until he let her go.
Rapid KL, on the other hand, said in a statement that the man, who appeared to suffer from a mental health condition, went across Platform 1 to Platform 2 to attempt to molest the woman.
During the incident, auxiliary police officers who were on duty during that time raced to the scene, but the members of the public got there first.
“The culprit was dragged away from the victim by the members of the public despite the fact that he acted aggressively before leaving the scene,” Rapid KL said.
In another video, the same perpetrator was causing another scene as he was found standing in the train tracks, shouting and banging a LRT train with his shoe.
Police have confirmed the identity of the man who caused the incident. Datuk Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, the city police chief, stated that the suspect is currently receiving psychiatric treatment at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) and will be arrested soon.
Rapid KL apologised for the incident and immediately increased auxiliary police surveillance at the train stations.***
