Surah Ad-Dhuha was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (SAW) after a six-month period of not receiving any revelation from Allah. The Prophet (SAW) felt disturbed and depressed, believing that Allah was displeased and had forgotten him.

Surah Ad-Dhuha

“By the morning brightness” (93:1)

The morning light represents hope and new beginnings. The dawn of a new day, with its bright light, dispels the darkness of the night and fills us with happiness and motivation. It reminds us that no matter how dark and challenging our circumstances may be, there is always a promise of light and a fresh start.

It's important to keep in mind the significance of the opening verse of Surah Ad-Dhuha: "By the morning brightness." This verse serves as a reminder to maintain unwavering faith and motivation to persist through challenging times. Allah is reminding the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) of the beauty and brightness of the morning, symbolising the dispelling of his worries and the arrival of hope.

“And [by] the night when it covers with darkness” (93:2)

The presence of morning light reminds us that darkness always gives way to dawn. This verse underscores the transient nature of life's challenges, emphasising that just as night yields to morning, every hardship will eventually be replaced by ease and joy. It reinforces the unwavering presence of Allah's support, even during the darkest times.

“Your Lord has not taken leave of you, [O Muhammad], nor has He detested [you]” (93:3)

This beautiful verse directly addresses the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) concerns and the taunts of the disbelievers. It reassures him that Allah has not abandoned him and is not displeased with him. For believers, this verse is a reminder that Allah never forsakes His servants and is always there to guide and protect them.

“And the Hereafter is better for you than the first [life]” (93:4)

This verse highlights that the afterlife is so much better than the life we have now. Whenever you feel down, just remember that this life is a test that will lead to eternal bliss if faced with patience and faith. Our current struggles are temporary, and it's okay to face hardships. But, always keep in mind that the afterlife is filled with everything you could ever dream of. So, whenever you feel blue or start to lose hope, just remind yourself of this profound truth. That's why Allah lovingly reminds the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that the ultimate reward is much greater.

“And your Lord is going to give you, and you will be satisfied” (93:5)

This verse is a promise from Allah to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) that he will be blessed and satisfied. It offers immense hope and reassurance, not only to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) but to all believers. It emphasises that enduring life's trials with faith will lead to satisfaction and rewards in the afterlife.

“Did He not find you an orphan and give [you] refuge?” (93:6)

This powerful verse provides a direct message to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), offering reassurance and solace. It reminds him that Allah was there for him when he lost his parents, shielding and protecting him. It serves as a reminder for all of us to acknowledge that Allah is always present in our times of need, guiding and supporting us. Even in moments of despair when we feel that the odds are insurmountable, Allah has the power to make the impossible possible, pulling us through our toughest trials.

“And He found you lost and guided [you]” (93:7)

Allah reminds the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that He will always guide and support him, emphasising the importance of relying on Allah for guidance and support, especially during times of uncertainty and difficulty. This verse is a reminder that Allah's guidance is constant and reliable for all believers, and that we should never lose hope, no matter what happens.

“And He found you poor and made you self-sufficient” (93:8)

This verse highlights Allah's role as the ultimate provider and sustainer. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) experienced significant hardships, including poverty, yet Allah provided for him, elevating his status and ensuring his needs were met. This transition from poverty to self-sufficiency is a profound example of divine intervention and mercy.

For believers, this verse reminds us to trust in Allah’s provision, especially during times of financial difficulty or resource scarcity. It encourages a mindset of gratitude, recognising that everything we possess is a gift from Allah. By reflecting on past challenges and how they were overcome through divine assistance, we can find reassurance and hope for the future.

“So as for the orphan, do not oppress [him]” (93:9)

Here, it encourages believers to make sure that orphans are treated with kindness and fairness, and to prevent any mistreatment or exploitation. In today's world, this command includes a broader call for social justice. It emphasises the importance of protecting the rights and dignity of all vulnerable groups, such as orphans, refugees, and the poor. By fostering a culture of empathy and support, this verse urges communities to establish systems and structures that safeguard and uplift those in need.

“And as for the petitioner, do not repel [him]” (93:10)

The instruction to not repel the petitioner encourages believers to respond with empathy and assistance rather than turning them away. A petitioner, in this context, can be anyone who seeks help, whether they are asking for financial assistance, food, or emotional support. This principle is fundamental in cultivating a compassionate and supportive community. It highlights the value of charity, not just in the form of material aid, but also through acts of kindness and generosity, attentive listening, and providing moral support.

“But as for the favour of your Lord, report [it]” (93:11)

Reporting the favours of Allah involves expressing gratitude and acknowledging the blessings we receive. It encourages believers to speak positively about their experiences and inspire others to reflect on their own blessings.

By embracing the divine messages of Surah Ad-Dhuha, we can find comfort, hope, and a sense of purpose, even in the darkest times of our lives. InsyaAllah.
