GOMBAK, 17th November 2023: The Secretariat of English Language and Literature (ELITS) organised an  event called ‘Literature Made Easy’ on Friday, 17th November, from 9:30 AM until 12:30 PM at ADM LT 5. The event was held with the intent to help BENL students, particularly the first-years and second-years, in literature analysis.

Program Manager, sister Fatin Amani said, “This programme is an initiative of the Academic and Intellectual (ACE) bureau, we want to be able to provide assistance and opportunities for students to improve, and perform better academically. Therefore, this programme comes to mind. With literature, the problems are basic, therefore this programme is done at an introductory level, which differs from other linguistic programmes.”

Interestingly, ELITS invited speakers who are final-year students, namely Siti Sarah Sofea, Nik Liyana and Izzah Husna, who are currently working on their literature Final Year Project (FYP). Plus, the event was also graced with the presence of ELITS’ advisor, Dr Homam Altabaa.

“It is a new initiative by ELITS. Any questions you have about your studies, in relation to literature, you can ask and communicate with the seniors, Insya Allah,” said Dr Homam Altabaa in his speech.

The invited speakers presented on feminism and archetypal approaches to literature through the analysis of the poem ‘Little Red Cap’ by Carol Ann Duffy and a short story from The Grimms’ ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ respectively. It started with  an explanation on the structure of each approach, followed by a Question and Answer (Q&A) session.

The organiser also provided e-modules for reference to the participants and additional materials on the literature analysis for further comprehension.

By the time it hits 12:30 in the afternoon, the Literature Made Easy program wrapped up with an appreciation ceremony and a photography session with the committees, speakers and participants.

“At the end of the programme yesterday, many participants were requesting this programme to be a series, which we will take into consideration when preparing our next initiatives. Insya Allah,” sister Fatin Amani stated. She believed that the program was a success due to positive reviews from participants.
