PUTRAJAYA, 31 August 2023: Malaysia’s 66th Independence Day witnessed the excitement of over 100,000 Malaysians of diverse races uniting together to commemorate this historic day.
The Supreme King, Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Her Majesty Raja Permaisuri Agong graced Dataran Putrajaya at 8 a.m., preceded by the Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim and other important figures who had arrived earlier at 7.55a.m.
The celebration officially commenced with the national anthem, followed by a parade of five helicopters bearing the Jalur Gemilang, Malaysian national flag, accompanied by 14 cannon shots to signify Malaysia's 14 states.
The most anticipated event of the day was the aerial displays, involving around 50 air military assets from various categories, including strategic airlifters such as C130 Hercules and Airbus A400M, and fighter aircrafts such as the Sukhoi Su-30MKM, the F/A-18D Hornet, and the BAE Hawk.
Other than that, five commandos from the Royal Malaysia Police VAT69 stole the show with an acrobatic performance of parachute landing, jumping from an impressive height of 4000 feet. Three of them each were seen bearing the Jalur Gemilang, VAT69 commando, and the Malaysia Madani logo flag.
There were also motorcycle stunts performed by the Army Red Warrior TDM that awed the audience both in person and online.
The theme of this year's Independence Day, "Malaysia Madani: Tekad Perpaduan, Penuhi Harapan," fully encapsulates the hope and wish of all Malaysians to stay together under one umbrella named Malaysia to achieve great things together.
Malaysia celebrated its 66th Independence Day this year at Dataran Putrajaya. It was the fifth time the celebration was held there instead of at Dataran Merdeka. The last time citizens gathered at Dataran Putrajaya to celebrate this meaningful day was in 2019, right before the outbreak of COVID-19.
All in all, this year's celebration was a resounding success, with over 100,000 attendees, all of whom undoubtedly feel proud and affectionate of our beloved motherland. ***
