PARIS, 9th August 2024: Malaysia celebrated two remarkable achievements by the nation’s badminton stars at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, along with Lee Zii Jia, each secured a bronze medal in their respective badminton categories, marking a significant moment of triumph and national pride in Malaysia’s sporting history. Their outstanding performances on the court not only made Malaysians proud but also united the nation in celebrating their success.

On August 4th, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik continued their impressive Olympic journey by successfully defending the bronze medal they first won at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. They achieved this by defeating Denmark’s Anders Skaarup Rasmussen and Kim Astrup in the men’s doubles bronze medal match at the Paris 2024 Olympics, claiming third place once again and proving their continued success in the games.

Lee Chong Wei, the former Malaysian badminton player, highlighted the men’s doubles pair’s incredible resilience in his post on X and Facebook: “The second game... most people would think it's [a] lost cause. But you both never gave up. And you crawled back... point by point... and made us proud. One of the best comeback Malaysians have ever seen..”

A day after Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik brought home bronze, Lee Zii Jia added the second medal for Malaysia by winning bronze in the men’s singles badminton event. He earned his first Olympic medal with his victory over Lakshya Sen of India, signifying a notable improvement from his Round of 16 performance in his Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020 three years ago.

“Even though now it's only a bronze medal, but this is a starting for me (his Olympic journey). Definitely, I will come back stronger for the LA (Los Angeles Olympics 2028) and I will get that gold medal,” said Lee Zii Jia in his post-match interview.

Once again, congratulations to Aaron Chia, Soh Wooi Yik, and Lee Zii Jia. Their success at the Paris 2024 Olympics exemplifies how dedication and resilience can lead to outstanding outcomes, proving that a 'never give up' mentality can contribute to great success and serve as an inspiration to all. —TBC
