15th September 2024, Malaysia: The yearly Keretapi Sarong event is back in 2024! Organised by LOCCO Malaysia, Keretapi Sarong is a flash mob event where people will get the opportunity to don their traditional attires and sarong and gather at designated train stations to travel to a secret location, revealed on the day of the event.

This year, while the main event is held on 14th September in Lembah Klang, Selangor, the flash mob gathering will also simultaneously be held nationwide in Johor Bahru, Kota Bharu, Ipoh, Bukit Mertajam and Alor Setar. In fact, Keretapi Sarong 2024 will also be held abroad in Paris and Berlin as well.

According to LOCCO, the theme of this year’s event is “Bangga Malaysia” (Proud Malaysia). The theme is about celebrating Malaysia's unique identity, heritage and the spirit of unity in accordance with the celebration of Malaysia’s 67th Independence Day and Malaysia Day.
Shamsul Bahrin Zainuzzaman, the event’s director shared his thoughts on the theme;
“We want a theme that truly resonates with the heart and soul of every Malaysian. ‘Bangga Malaysia’ encapsulates our pride in our diverse culture, our achievements, and our unwavering unity. This theme is a call for all Malaysians to come together and celebrate what makes us uniquely Malaysian.”

Interestingly, the event will also display the strengths of local brand products that will put them in the spotlight in forming Malaysian identities such as Prasarana, ERL, AirAsia, Hotlink, Siti Khadijah, HAUSBOOM and Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN).
Keretapi Sarong is the event that showcases Malaysia’s unity and diversity. —TBC
