MetMalaysia issues nationwide alerts on expected heavy rain and strong winds.

SUMMARY OF NEWS:

Kuala Lumpur, 2nd May 2026: An alert issued by Met Malaysia regarding the thunderstorm was warned to multiple states, as strong wind and heavy rain are to be expected to continue till 6PM today. The warning covers Perlis, Kedah, Penang, and several districts in Perak, as well as certain parts of Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor, Sarawak, Sabah, and Labuan. "Thunderstorm warnings are short-term alerts, valid for a period not exceeding 6 hours for each issuance," said by MetMalysia. 


The warning issued by MetMalaysia has covered Perlis, Kedah and Penang, as well as several districts in Perak, including Kerian, Larut, Matang dan Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim, issued at 3.35pm. 


Similar conditions are forecast in Kelantan implying, sheltering Besut, Setiu, Hulu Terengganu, Dungun and Kemaman.Whilst, in the state of Pahang, the areas affected are Lipis, Jerantut, Maran, Kuantan, Bera and Rompin, while the warning also extends to Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya. 


On that note, several areas are expected to face similar challenges: Like in Negeri Sembilan, places like Seremban, Port Dickson and Rembau, including Melaka and certain areas of Johor, namely Segamat, Batu Pahat, Kluang, Pontian and Kulai. 


In Sarawak, the warning covered  Kuching, Samarahan, Betong (Saratok), Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah, Kapit, Bintulu, Miri and Limbang. In expectancy of thunderstorms in Sabah, covered in the Interior districts of Sipitang, Kuala Penyu and Beaufort, along with the West Coast areas of Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran and Kota Belud, and segments of Kudat including Kota Marudu and Pitas.The warning were also issued to Pulau Labuan. 


Met Malaysia mentioned that the alert is announced when the signs of thunderstorms with harsh rainfall of 20mm per hour, which are either approaching or anticipated to last longer than an hour. "Thunderstorm warnings are short-term alerts, valid for a period not exceeding 6 hours for each issuance," said by MetMalaysia.
