KUALA LUMPUR, 2nd December 2023: In a remarkable feat coinciding with its 2-year anniversary under the new guidance of Kim Pan Gon, the Malaysian National Football Team has achieved a significant ascent in the latest FIFA rankings. The team's stellar performance and consistent victories over the past year have propelled them to new heights, showcasing the nation's growing prowess on the international football stage.

The South Korean-born manager is now considered a ‘hero’ after he played a major role in the rise of Harimau Malaya. Malaysia was ranked 154th when Pan Gon took over the team in January 2022. Now, the squad has surged sharply to the 130th rank (+14). The increased ranking reflects positively on the nation's football infrastructure, development programmes, and overall dedication to the sport. This collective effort has not only earned them admiration from fans but has also garnered attention from football enthusiasts worldwide.

Across 27 matches played, Pan Gon recorded 18 wins, 4 draws, and 5 losses, with a winning percentage of 66.67%. After two crucial matches against Kyrgyzstan and Chinese Taipei, he sent Malaysia to the top of the group in the World Cup Asian Qualifier (Second Round). The proud magician will surely keep the momentum going throughout the competition.

On the other hand, the Malaysian Football Association (FAM), led by Dato Haji Hamidin, expressed its pride in the team's accomplishments over the past year and acknowledged the role of various stakeholders in nurturing football talent in the country. The association also highlighted its commitment to further invest in the development of grassroots football, ensuring a sustainable pipeline of talent for the national team.
