The energy in the Mini Auditorium at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) was electric as I walked in that morning. As the Public Relations for the forum “Interfaith Voices: What’s Youth’s Solution for Palestine-Israel?”, I had spent weeks preparing for this event, and the anticipation in the air was palpable.

The forum, hosted by Harmoni IIUM and supported by the Architects of Diversity, aimed to tackle one of the most complex and heart-wrenching conflicts of our time. I felt a profound sense of responsibility as I joined the crowd of students, faculty, and guests, all eager to explore potential solutions and build bridges through interfaith dialogue.

Our panel featured an impressive lineup of speakers: Dr. Hafidzi, Encik Syaff Shukri Abdul Jalil, Encik Krishna, and Encik Shiang Yen Eow. Each speaker brought their own unique perspective, reflecting diverse religious and cultural backgrounds. Amir Izzwan Abu Hasan, our moderator, skillfully guided the discussions, ensuring that each voice was heard.

The event began with a welcoming speech that outlined our objectives and provided a brief history of the Israel-Palestine conflict. I watched as the first session started at 9:30 a.m., with speakers delving into the historical, cultural, and religious dimensions of the conflict. They highlighted how different media narratives within Malaysia's Chinese and Indian communities shape perceptions, stressing the crucial need for interfaith dialogue.

During the 10:30 a.m. break, I mingled with attendees, feeling inspired by their passion and eagerness to engage. It was clear that this issue resonated deeply with many of them, and their enthusiasm reaffirmed my belief in the power of youth-led initiatives.

The second session resumed at 10:45 a.m., focusing on practical steps youth can take to contribute to peacebuilding efforts. Our speakers emphasised the importance of education, empathy, and active engagement in fostering a more understanding and peaceful society.

One of the most touching moments for me was when one of the organisers expressed the forum’s intent: "Events like these are essential for breaking down barriers and fostering mutual understanding. The situation in Palestine is distressing, but through collective efforts and solidarity, we can make a difference."

Encik Syaff's words particularly resonated with me. He urged us all to transform our awareness into action, saying, "We hope initiatives like this not only raise awareness but also inspire real, tangible actions. Our efforts might seem small, but collectively, they can create a significant impact." His message was a powerful reminder of the potential within each of us to effect change.

The forum culminated in a resolution and Q&A session at 11:45 a.m., allowing participants to engage directly with the speakers. This interactive segment was especially moving, as it highlighted the passion and commitment of IIUM’s youth towards global issues. We concluded with a closing and photography session at noon, capturing the unity and hope that filled the room.

As I left the auditorium, I felt a renewed sense of purpose. The forum not only educated us about the conflict but also inspired us to take meaningful action. Reflecting on the day, I realised that the youth at IIUM are not just passive observers; they are active participants in creating a more peaceful and inclusive world.

Organising this forum was a profound experience for me. It reinforced my belief that, even in the face of enduring conflict, there is always room for hope and change. The event “Interfaith Voices: What’s Youth’s Solution for Palestine-Israel?” stands as a testament to the power of youth-led initiatives in fostering understanding and driving tangible change. I am incredibly proud to have played a part in this significant effort.
