19-year-old eldest son sentenced to 24 years in prison for murder of parents - Teller Report


SAGA PREFECTURE, 16th September 2023: The Saga District Court has handed down a 24-year prison sentence to a 19-year-old young man who committed murder in a fit of rage, citing prolonged mistreatment by his father as a contributing factor to the tragic incident.


In March, the defendant was taken into custody on suspicion of murdering his parents in Tosu, Saga Prefecture. Initially, he was transferred to the jurisdiction of the Saga Family Court, but subsequently, he was returned to the public prosecutor's office, as reported by Kyodo News.


The perpetrator, the eldest child of the deceased couple, fatally stabbed his parents at their residence. The lifeless bodies of the father, aged in his 50s, and the mother. aged in her 40s, were discovered by their teenage daughter in the living room on the ground floor at approximately 5:30 p.m. on March 9th, both having suffered stab wounds to their necks.


The individual in question, a university student in Fukuoka, was residing with his family but was absent from home at the time his sister made the grim discovery of the bodies. Authorities issued an alert for his whereabouts, leading to his apprehension around 10 p.m. that same evening.


He was found alone inside a vehicle parked in a convenience store parking lot in Nagato, Yamaguchi Prefecture, with the assistance of smartphone tracking. Upon searching the car, several knives were discovered.


In the initial proceedings of his trial held on September 5, the defendant conveyed to the court that he had endured prolonged and severe treatment from his father, reaching a breaking point.


He also expressed remorse for his mother's demise, explaining that he did not intend to harm her, but she unfortunately witnessed him taking the life of his father. The court issued its judgement on the matter last Friday. ***
