A Tragic End: Boy Choked His Younger Brother to Death

By Farah Ghazi

MELAKA, 5 July 2023: The news of a 14-year-old boy choking his nine-year-old brother, Muhammad Haziq Damiri Najli, to death at their house in Kampung Bukit Piatu, Melaka, has brought shock to the Malaysians.

The boys’ father claimed that his elder son had been bullied since he was in the first grade of high school, but he remained silent about it until this year, when it worsened and he began complaining to him and his wife.

“He had complained about being bullied at school by his two seniors, who choked him while he was sleeping, splashed him with water, and kicked him apart from being beaten up,” he said regarding his elder son’s change of behaviour.

The father of the children said that the incident happened when he and his wife were out working. So, they kept track of the two brothers by using CCTV to monitor their children through mobile phones when both of them were not at home.

According to Sinar Harian, the victim’s neighbour, Qhurun Ain Johari, 31, got a phone call from the children’s mother to check on her son’s condition after seeing her eldest son choking his younger brother through the CCTV.

She also reported that the victim did not attend school because he was feeling ill, while his eldest brother has been dealing with “health issues” for the past few weeks.

“The boy seems to be unaware of what is going on. He kept strangling his younger brother until the neighbours came to help,” she explained.

Meanwhile, the suspect was likely to be transported to the Melaka Court Complex in Air Keroh following the statement by Assistant Commissioner Chsristopher Patit of the Melaka Tengah District Police.

He stated that the police were wrapping up the investigations into the matter under Section 302 of the Penal Code. ***
