GOMBAK, 27th May 2023: Book lovers joined in the fun of a trip to the KL International Book Fair on 27th May at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur, organized by the Bureau of Entrepreneurship of ELITS.
44 IIUM students, including 14 committees, joined in the fun. They waited at the main staircase at 9.30 a.m. before they boarded a bus to PWTC.
The Program Manager, Ayesha Fatiha Mohamad Jalani, acknowledged that this trip aims to create an opportunity for those who cannot go by themselves and expose students to various books and well-known authors in hope to spark a heightened interest in book readings among IIUM students.
Upon arriving, the participants encountered some challenges in navigating around the book fair since many people had already arrived at the scene, and more were expected.
Nevertheless, the students were able to explore a wealth of books on four levels, while the third level is the most challenging and packed part as it houses best-selling books sought after by many.
The students are greeted with numerous book stalls from various publishers such as The Patriots, Karya Seni, PTS, and Iman Publishing.
Notably, the book fair was dominated by Malay books, along with English. The genre was also based mainly on self-healing and motivational books such as True You, Falsafah Hidup and Making Art out of Pain.
There are also notable best-selling fiction books such as Our Tethered Skates by Naadhira Zahari and The Undead City by Osman Deen.
Many book publishing companies had their books on sale, such as three books for RM 75 by Iman Publishing, encouraging people to be exposed to a swath of different book genres and authors.
“Overall, I think this program is successful. Throughout the program, participants seemed to have fun, and some even hoped the trip would be longer as they wanted to explore more booths,” recounted Ayesha Fatiha.
The book fair trip ended with the participants returning with a notable amount of books and hopeful for another such trip.***
