Gombak, 24 May 2023: The Secretariat of English Language and Literature (ELITS) has organized the BENL Raya celebration on 21st May 2023 in the multi-purpose hall (MPH) of Mahallah Hafsa of IIUM Gombak.

The event was attended by 130 students mostly from the BENL programme as well as participated by some lecturers and alumni.

The opening ceremony was blessed by a du’a recitation from the vice president 2 of ELITS, Muhammad Hakim bin Abdul Malik and welcoming remarks from one of the BENL lecturers, Dr. Ainul Azmin binti Md. Zamin.

The event, tied around the string of Raya’s spirit, featured participants in their finest traditional Raya attire. The event took off with captivating performances and highlighted the diversity of student cultures, showcasing their distinctive Raya experiences in their hometowns.

The celebration continued with Raya-themed entertaining games, Kahoot, followed by a lucky draw and a surprise announcement of the best Raya dresses for male and female participants where winners received amazing prizes.

According to the male-best-dressed winner, Muhammad Anas Halimi bin Mohd Halimudin, “I had a blast and truly enjoyed the arrangement of this event. Plus, I got to taste many delicious foods like Nasi Tomato and Me Hoon soup. As a first-year BENL student, it was a special occasion for me to be celebrating Raya with my friends here for the first time."

Moreover, the event was filled with glee that one of the committee members, Nur Amira Atirah Maulat Ishak said, “It is because of the good teamwork among the committees that we finally manage to deliver a memorable celebration though encountering many obstacles."

In asking about the event’s organizational process, the president of ELITS, Fathin Naufal binti Nizam said, this event came with many challenges due to the late approval from our Kulliyyah so all the preparations including booking the venue and preparing the foods took us around one week."

According to Fathin, “Initially we are planning to conduct this event at Wadi Budi on a much larger scale, but due to late approval, we have to search for other available places and the only venue we can secure is MPH Hafsa," she clarified.

However, according to Fathin, “Although there were many challenges, we were able to work successfully and finally realized the event”, she expressed.

“I hope that we can get more participants involved in this kind of programme in the future and targeting for a much larger committee, she concluded at the end of the interview.***
