SELAYANG, BATU CAVES, 3 November 2023: The Umission Club of IIUM recently organised a programme called BRO 7.0: Mini Chef as part of their Borderless Refugee Outreach (BRO) initiative. The event took place at Rainbow of Love, a school run by Human Aid Selangor, located in Selayang.

This special school caters to approximately 100 refugee children from Rohingya and Myanmar, providing them with essential skills such as reading, writing, and counting for their future. BRO 7.0: Mini Chef aimed to foster creativity among the participants through the art of sandwich making while also bridging the gap between locals and refugees. Around 50 students actively took part in the event, with support from dedicated volunteers and organising committees.

The programme commenced at 8:30 a.m., with opening remarks from the programme manager, school principal representatives, and an introduction of the volunteers to the eager students. The students quickly formed groups and began crafting their own unique sandwiches, all under the guidance of the assisting committees. The highlight of the event was a competition to determine the tastiest sandwich. After much deliberation, it was group 8 that emerged victorious, impressing the judges with their exceptional creations. As a reward, the group received prizes from the Umission Club.

The BRO 7.0: Mini Chef programme achieved tremendous success, thanks to the unwavering support of the university, generous sponsorships, and the dedicated efforts of the school organisation. This initiative not only provided a platform for the refugee children to showcase their culinary skills but also fostered a sense of unity and understanding between the local community and refugees.

This remarkable event served as a reminder of the profound impact small acts of kindness and solidarity can have on the lives of those in need. Through such initiatives, the Umission Club, IIUM, and Human Aid Selangor continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of these young refugees, empowering them with skills and opportunities for a better future***
