GOMBAK, 24th November 2023: On 23rd November, students of ENGL3140 from both sections 1 and 2 joined hands in bringing visitors down a memorable journey through 20th-Century British literature—the Victorian, Modernism, and Postmodernism eras.

Taking place during the lunch hour, the exhibition featured 14 different topics from 14 groups, with each presenting eye-catching posters that were displayed in every corner of the Human Sciences Square. This garnered the interest of the audience, not only the students but also the lecturers who came to the site to learn about British Literature. Dr Homam, Dr Tanja, Dr Madihah, and Dr Helena were some of those who graced the event.

Visitors who stopped by were not only informed of the key elements of the three eras mentioned but were also introduced to various prominent poets and authors throughout the century. Some of them were Thomas Hardy, T. S. Elliot, W. B. Yeats, D. H. Lawrence, and Carol Ann Duffy.

Most of the exhibitors displayed poems and novels that depicted the reality of society during that time, allowing the audience to delve into the past, which is surely different from today’s world. Explanations were given in a detailed manner while still keeping a friendly tone that captivated the audience to listen to the stories.

The students did not simply present with nothing to reward the listener. Candy and perfume, among other things, were given out to those who engaged in their presentations, adding to the overall amazing experience. Considering this was most students’ first involvement in the exhibition, they did an excellent job of attracting the audience to hear about their respective topics.

But hold on, the fun did not stop at that! The BENL students did not forget to prepare a few activities for visitors to enjoy during the event as well. Surrounded by the held-up posters, a large table was placed in the heart of the Human Sciences Square where activities such as word search, colouring pictures, and phonetic transcription could be tried there.

The event lasted for three hours, ending at 3 p.m. sharp. Visitors left the venue with happy faces, bringing along the knowledge they acquired from this short, meaningful exhibition. Hopefully, this event will inspire more similar exhibitions to be organised in the future that allow students the chance to learn many new things in a close-up manner. ***
