GOMBAK, 27 June 2023: Eligible adolescents aged 18 to 20 born between 2003 and 2005 or full-time students at Malaysia Higher Educational Institution (IPT) have begun redeeming e-Belia Rahmah cash aid since June 26, 2023.
According to the Ministry of Finance (MoF), eligible youth can register through one of three e-wallet service providers: Boost, Setel, or Touch 'n Go eWallet. The MoF further stated that e-Belia Rahmah is only valid for offline transactions with listed partners such as Mydin, Watsons, and Lazada from the date redeemed until August 31, 2023.
The RM 200 credit opens many possibilities for the users to explore offline services and products available. This initiative by the current Malaysian Government has ignited numerous positive and interesting reactions among students and society itself.
Among the reactions were Malaysian Institute of Teacher Education (IPG) students questioning why they do not receive e-Belia Rahmah like other IPT students and further claiming that this is an act of discrimination against them.
Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, a member of parliament for Muar, also questioned the government's decision to implement a ‘discriminatory’ policy, although IPG students were also enrolled in higher education institutions.
“Why are IPG students left behind? They are full-time students as well. Future teachers!” He said this through his recent tweet on Twitter on July 2, 2023.
Nevertheless, the credit’s value indeed benefited 2 million youth and IPTA students across Malaysia and boosted the economy of local businesses. ***
