The seminar was conducted online via Google Meet and lasted for two hours from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. It is convenient for other students to join the talk as it is conducted online, where students can stay in the comfort of their mahallah while joining the talk.

The moderator was a student from the Department of Psychology, Sister Janani Arifah, whereas the speakers were comprised of English Language and Literature (BENL) students, Brother Syakir Aiman, Brother Amirul Syafiq, Sister Nur Mashitah Wahidah, Sister Siti Sarah Sofea and Sister Nik Liyana rounding off the list.

Also in attendance at the talk was Dr Homam Altabaa, a lecturer from DELL, who is also the advisor of the Secretariat of English Language and Literature (ELITS).

Each speaker presented their literary criticism on selected American literary texts, namely, “The Colour of Injustice: An Islamic Approach to Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird,” “Uncovering The American Dream in Arthur Miller’s Death of A Salesman,” “Sufism’s Key Concepts in Kahlil Gibran’s The Forerunner,” “Pinocchio Reimagined: A Hero’s Journey in Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio,” and “William Carlos Williams’ Raleigh Was Right: A Structuralist Reading.”

It is hoped that the beneficial talk had a positive impact on others, BENL students in particular, as the talk will allow them to grow an appreciation towards American literature and see it in a new light.***
