GOMBAK, 15 August 2013: An opportunity for language learning has landed students of Diniyyah Puteri, a boarding high school in Indonesia, in Malaysia on 6 August 2023. They will be in Malaysia, specifically in Gombak, Selangor, at the Islamic International University Malaysia (IIUM) for 28 days.
The purpose for coming to IIUM is to enroll themselves in the English Immersive Programme that enables students to participate in lectures and engage in English activities, individually and collectively, through mini-projects that cover listening, speaking, writing, and reading skills.
On 14 August 2023, the program started with an opening ceremony and introduction to IIUM's lecturers and facilitators.
Later in the afternoon, in a special session, they visited the IIUM's radio station, IIUM FM. There, the students had the opportunity to experience being involved in the broadcasting industry through realistic roleplay, such as being hosts, guests and broadcasters.
"I was very nervous at that time as it was my first time. But after trying it out, it just becomes fun," stated Fathisya (17), one of the volunteers among the students.
Prior to the program in IIUM, the students were given a chance to explore various parts of Malaysia, including the Petronas Twin Towers, Putrajaya, museums, iconic mosques, schools, and more.
While on 10 August 2023, the students enjoyed a memorable trip to Singapore, where they visited attractions like Universal Studio, Changi Airport, Garden by the Bay, Merlion Park, souvenir stores, and a historical mosque.
"It was amazing. We visited many places in Singapore and learned lots of knowledge there. I hope we will have another opportunity to visit again," said Raudina (17), a 3rd-year high school student of Diniyyah Puteri.
This program will continue for the next 14 days, during which students accumulate diverse experiences to enhance their English skills. They aim to contribute positively to their respective schools once the program concludes.
Through this immersive experience, English is hoped to become a part of the students' lives rather than something learned temporarily. Such corresponds to the aspiration of Najla (17), a Diniyyah Puteri student who aspires to improve her English and deepen her understanding of English language.***
