IPOH, September 25, 2023: An unemployed man was charged in the Sessions Court here with the alleged rape of his 11-year-old sister-in-law in Taman Bersatu last week.
The 22-year-old man pleaded guilty to the charges read by the interpreter in front of Judge Norita Mohd. Ardani on Friday, September 22.
According to the charges, the father of a child allegedly raped an 11-year-old child in a house in Taman Bersatu, Ipoh, at approximately 11 p.m. on September 16, 2023.
It is understood that the police arrested the accused last Tuesday after the victim made a police report about her brother-in-law's immoral conduct.
The incident is said to have occurred after the accused called the child into the living room of the house and asked for her assistance in cleaning his ears before suddenly pulling her into a room and raping her.
For this offence, the accused is charged under Section 376(2)(e) of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison and caning.
The charges were read together with Section 16 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a prison sentence of up to five years and caning if convicted.
The Deputy Public Prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent Rhozariah Mohd, conducted the prosecution while no lawyer represented the accused.
The court then subsequently scheduled October 23rd for the next mention of the case.***
