KOTA BHARU, 26th November 2023: Kelantan sees a slight increase in the number of evacuees who seek shelter from the rising flood in Kelantan. Terengganu, on the other hand, sees a slight decrease.
The number of flood evacuees in Kelantan went up from 61, which was recorded on the night of the 24th, to 63 just yesterday.
The evacuees were placed in two relief centres—one at SK Tok Deh in Pasir Mas and the other at SK Wakaf Raja in Pasir Puteh. The latter houses 30 of them, while the remaining evacuees were placed at SK Tok Deh.
Terengganu recorded a much higher number of evacuees, with seven relief centres prepared in total, housing a total of 486 affected citizens.
It was reported by Bernama that the State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat said that two relief centres in Kuala Terengganu are housing 273 people, three relief centres in Kuala Nerus housing 62, three centres housing 124 in Marang, and another one in Besut housing 27. This brings the total to 486. However, this number is significantly lower than what was recorded on Friday night, which was 638.
Even though the number of flood evacuees in Terengganu has decreased significantly, the water levels for Sungai Nerus and Sungai Setiu are still at alert levels, with 11.34m and 16.51m recorded, respectively, while the level for Sungai Jalok is at the warning point with 8.25m.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department issued a warning for continuous rain in several states, including Kelantan and Terengganu. The rain is forecast to continue until the 27th of November, which is on Monday. ***
