KUALA LUMPUR, 22nd March 2023: Socks bearing the word “Allah” on it were distributed in the KK Super Mart, offending Muslims in the country for insulting Allah’s name.

The local supermarket had socks with Allah’s name on their shelves, causing controversy and immediate action from cops and JAKIM.

The founder of the supermarket, Datuk Seri Dr. K. K. Chai, and his team immediately came forward to issue a public apology two hours after the incident went viral on social media platforms. He claims that the socks were imported from China and regrets not checking the product beforehand.

“Even I cannot accept the sale of socks bearing the word Allah, what more to print such products?” he stated.

Due to this issue, KK Super Mart faces boycott calls from citizens as it is a serious religious matter. Despite having publicly apologised, the investigation is still going on to ensure none of the socks are being sold at other KK Super Mart branches.

On top of that, it is also reported that the company has terminated the contract with the local supplier, Xin Jian Chang Sdn Bhd, and taken legal action against them.

By 19th March 2024, KK Super Mart had begun displaying apologies on large electronic displays at its outlets nationwide, as demanded by Umno Youth Chief, Dr. Muhamad Akmal Saleh.***
