LIBYA, September 24, 2023: In a dire turn of events, Libya is currently dealing with a catastrophic flood disaster due to Storm Daniel that has swamped neighbourhoods, damaged homes, and stranded thousands of people in desperate need of aid.

According to official statistics, at least 5,500 people are estimated to have died due to the floods, and another 10,000 people are missing. The North African country, already struggling with numerous problems, now faces a catastrophic humanitarian crisis due to the effects of the massive rains.

The Libyans, children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing health conditions urgently need food, shelter, clean water, and medical attention.

Osama Mohamed, a resident of Derna, claimed that 40% of the city was without electricity.

"The town's telecommunications are insufficient, there is no running water, and only two bakeries are still running,” he continued.

Meanwhile, Sulaiman al-Mabruk, a Libyan volunteer, said, "Power generators need fuel, and it's difficult to get medicine for people with chronic diseases."

The tragedy caused by the flooding in Libya is a powerful reminder of how vulnerable communities are to weather disasters. The world is watching with concern as Libya works relentlessly to overcome this unparalleled catastrophe and revitalize its residential areas.***
