By Syazleen Tarmizi

GOMBAK, SELANGOR, 2 December 2023: The Council of Principals recently organized a three-day leader camp called MCLead, aimed at providing leadership training for the newly appointed Mahallah Representative Committees (MRC). Taking place from 1st to 3rd December, this annual camp in Semester 1 of the academic year offered an invaluable opportunity for these Mahallah Students' Leaders to enhance their soft skills and leadership abilities in effectively guiding their respective Mahallahs. The highly anticipated MCLead 2023/2024 took place at the Multipurpose Hall KICT, IIUM Gombak, and brought together approximately 21 Mahallahs from Gombak, Kuantan, and Pagoh campuses.

The event commenced on 1st December with an opening remark by Dr. Nan Noorhidayu Megat Laksana, the principal of Mahallah Halimatus Saadiah. The first module of the camp, titled "Group Binding: We Are Family," kicked off the day's activities, followed by the second module, "Be Active Be Creative." These sessions were designed to foster camaraderie among team members from different Mahallahs through engaging games and cultivating a sense of teamwork. After the congregational Maghrib prayer, Ustaz Abdullah Bukhari delivered a spiritually uplifting tazkirah, which was followed by an insightful session with the Deputy Rector (SDCE), Prof. Dr. Akmal Khuzairy Abd. Rahman. The day concluded with Module 3, "Mindset is Everything," conducted after the Bai’ah ceremony.

The following day, 2nd December, commenced bright and early at 4:30 AM with Qiyamulail and Subuh Prayer at SHAH Mosque. Subsequently, students made their way to Kulliyyah of ICT for a briefing on Student Program, Financial Matters, and Generating Income and Idea via Entrepreneurship. Modules 4, 5, and 6, which had been assigned on the first day, were also covered and included various group activities aimed at reinforcing the concepts learned.

The final day, 3rd December, saw the culmination of MCLead with Module 7, "Let’s Cook." Students were challenged to showcase their culinary skills by preparing two dishes, which were then judged. During the closing ceremony, representatives from each Mahallah energetically presented their Hakka or cheers, contributing to the vibrant atmosphere. The event concluded with a prize-giving ceremony and a lively photography session, marking the successful completion of MCLead.

MCLead proved to be an outstanding three-day leadership training program for the newly appointed MRC committees from all Mahallahs at IIUM, including those from Kuantan and Pagoh campuses. The invaluable experiences gained and the skills honed during the camp are set to empower these student leaders to make a positive impact within their respective Mahallahs and the university as a whole.
