GOMBAK, 4th January 2024: To cap off 2023, a fun run event called Mind Over Miles: IIUM Mega Run was successfully held on Sunday, 31st December 2023, at the IIUM Cultural Centre from 6:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.

The event was officiated by three attending VIPs, Associate Professor Mohd Noh bin Abdul Jalil, Deputy Dean of AHAS KIRKHS; Dr. Mohammad Mohiuddin, Advisor of IRKHSSS; and Professor Dr. Asem Shehadeh Saleh Ali, Head of Department of Arabic Language and Literature (DALL).

Interestingly, this programme not only offers the usual 5 KM category but also offers another event to the participants, which is the 2 KM relay event. Plus, the IIUM Mega Run invited the IIUM community and the public as well to join the programme.

With the motto, “Mind Over Miles, One Mile at a Time”, the event was arranged to motivate the participants to cultivate an active mind and to always be vigilant in supporting those in need, to promote a healthy lifestyle and to raise awareness about mental health to the IIUM community. The programme was organised by the Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences Students’ Society (IRKHSSS). The society collaborated with the IIUM Student Union, CENSERVE, IIUMToday, IIUM FM, and IIUM TV as media partners. 

The programme garnered support from clubs at IIUM, namely, ICTSS, ENGINIUS, BEDSA, Misi Club, Steadfast Club and NIBRAS. A company that sells mineral water, Jantzen, also sponsored the event.

Over 121 IIUM students were involved as committees working behind the scenes for months under the leadership of Brother Haziq Muhsin, Programme Manager of Mind Over Miles: IIUM Mega Run 2023.

Although the programme has ended, official merchandise such as t-shirts and tote bags are still available for online pre-order through IIUM Mega Run 2023 official website: https://linktr.ee/iiummegarun. 

It is hoped that similar programmes like Mind Over Miles: IIUM Mega Run 2023 will be held in the future to encourage healthy lifestyles among IIUM students.
