Shaping Your Imagination Into Words: Short Story Competition for Aspiring IIUM Writers!

GOMBAK, 18 August 2023: The Institute of Muslim Unity (IIMU) and IIUM’s Secretariat of English Language and Literature (ELITS), represented by The BENL Chronicle, are collaborating to organise “Chronicling Muslim Lives: A Creative Writing Competition” which is ongoing from August to December 2023.


This competition serves as a vessel for participants to unleash their creative ability in writing and gain recognition for their works subsequently.


The competition welcomes all IIUM students (undergraduate and postgraduate ) with cash prizes for eight winners: RM200 for 1st place, RM100 for 2nd place and RM50 for six runner-ups.


Furthermore, selected stories from the competition will be published in a book and many others will be featured on The BENL Chronicle's official website. A special award ceremony will be held for the winners and the published writers to celebrate their talents and creative contributions.


To participate, students must submit their original short story that revolves around the lives of Muslims and the social issues they are facing, covering any of the following themes:

● Society and family

● Health and environment

● Economy

● Education and creativity

● Values and morality


The short story must be written in English and a limit of a maximum of two stories is set for each participant. The word limits for the submission ranges from 1000 to 5000 words per short story.
