SOUTH KOREA, 30th August 2024: Taeil of Neo Culture Technology (NCT) has been expelled from the Korean idol group due to sexual offence allegations, according to SM Entertainment.
After reviewing the circumstances and accusations, SM Entertainment issued an official statement which has received over 45.7 million views in less than three hours, announcing Taeil's departure from NCT and that he is no longer allowed to continue activities with the group. The company adds the fact that Taeil is currently cooperating with the police investigation and will provide further statements as the investigation progresses.
“This is SM Entertainment. We have recently confirmed that Taeil has been implicated in a criminal case related to sexual crimes. While looking into the situation, we recognised that the issue is very serious, and we have decided that Taeil could no longer continue team activities.We have discussed this matter with Taeil, and it has been decided he will be removed from the group. Currently, Taeil is fully cooperating with the police investigation. We will share additional statements as the investigation progresses. We deeply apologise for the controversy caused by our artist,” said the company.
Before the allegations arose, Taeil was on hiatus due to a leg injury; therefore, this sudden news of Taeil’s departure due to the allegations has shocked many NCT fans, which are called NCTzen. Most NCTzen have expressed their disappointment towards him and concern about the victim through various social media posts and comments. Even so, there are also some of NCTzen who are still waiting for further updates from the company. —TBC
