Mics and Moments Event
GOMBAK, 25 October 2023: On the night of 23rd October, world-renowned astronaut Dato’ Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor delivered an inspiring talk on space exploration and chart-topping actor and singer, Naim Daniel entertained the audiences with acoustic performances during ‘Mics and Moments’ event.
The event was held in IIUM Main Auditorium from 8.00 p.m. until 10.45 p.m., receiving enthusiastic responses from around 120 attendees, including Prof. Ar. Dr. Abdul Razak Sapian, Dean of Kulliyyah of Architecture and Environmental Design (KAED), lecturers, and students.
The event began with Dato’ Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar sharing his journey before and after going to space, moderated by Assistant Professor Dr. Syakir Amir Ab. Rahman, Deputy Dean of Student Development and Community Engagement.

During the event, Dato’ Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar shared his experiences as Malaysia’s first astronaut, emphasising the importance of space exploration and STEM. He received five questions from IIUM students and answered them smoothly while including inspiring words to follow our dreams in his talk during question and answer session.
“Dreaming is crucial because it is the starting point for hard work and imagination, motivating you to strive towards your life goals. It holds great significance in life, so never let go of your dreams,” said Dato’ Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar.
The talk concluded with a photography session, where audiences had the opportunity to obtain his autograph and take pictures with him.
Naim Daniel captured audiences attention with his soulful performances
Following the talk, Naim Daniel, a Malaysian rising star, took the stage by delivering seven performances of his popular songs and audience-requested covers like Sumpah, Permata, and Laskar Pelangi. His soulful acoustic performances captivated the audience, leaving an indelible mark for the night.
Aside from entertaining the crowds, he conveyed heartfelt messages to the audience, reminding them not to forget about the ongoing issue in Gaza.
“I hope we will always pray that the children in Gaza, Palestine, can wake up one day to the sound of birds singing instead of bombs. And I hope everyone here will always be grateful for what we have,” Naim reminded.
The eventful night of ‘Mics and Moments’ is one of the programmes under the KAED Festival which was held on the 22nd of October until the 27th of October, 2023. It is hoped that more impactful events like this will be organised in the future to inspire IIUM students.***
