GOMBAK, March 15, 2024: A Bubur Lambuk Distribution project, namely Stirring Up the Ramadhan Spirit: Bubur Lambuk 2024, was held by the Mahallah Aminah Representative Committee 23/24, in collaboration with Imaratul Masjid (I-Masjid), Mahallah Maryam Representative Committee 23/24, and Mahallah Asiah Representative Committee 23/24, in front of the Mahallah Office and Multi-purpose Hall of Mahallah Aminah, starting from 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.

Bubur lambuk distribution is a well-known Malay tradition during Ramadhan, and of course, the Mahallah representative committee 23/24 of Mahallah Aminah, Maryam, and Asiah, as well as committees from I-Masjid, would not let go of the opportunity to continue this tradition with the help of the head chef, who is well known by the nickname “Kak Sham.”

The programme started with prepping the ingredients for bubur lambuk, and then preparing the equipment to cook it thoroughly. This is to avoid time-wasting and to make sure every ingredient is properly stirred without any of them being left behind. At roughly 11 a.m., the committees began cooking and stirring the bubur lambuk in three massive pots.

The bubur lambuk took a very long time to be fully cooked; therefore, during this leisure time, the committees gathered together to continue preparing the next ingredients and packing supplies while getting to know each other. Even after the bubur lambuk was fully cooked and the committee were busy packing it into almost 500 small containers that would be distributed to the collaborating Mahallahs residents and other students, they still tried to converse with each other.

After the Jumaah prayer in the evening, the committees packed the bubur lambuk containers specifically for IIUM staff and officers and efficiently distributed them to IIUM offices before the offices closed. At five in the evening, the committees managed to finish packing all the bubur lambuk containers flawlessly. The committees distributed those containers to the collaborating Mahallah residents and other students, and at 5:30 p.m., they dispersed.

“First of all, I would like to thank all the committees that worked so hard to make sure this programme ran smoothly. Without you guys, this programme will never be a success. Thank you, principals and fellows, for helping to make this programme a success, directly or indirectly. Also, thank you to those who trusted me and appointed me as the programme manager for this big ram. I was not very confident at first, but, alhamdulillah, everything went well. I hope this effort to distribute bubur lambuk to IIUM students will give us, the committees, a great reward, especially in this holy month of Ramadan. And I hope all the students who managed to get the bubur lambuk are happy and enjoy their meal during Iftar. I would like to encourage IIUM students to do a lot of volunteer work like this because even though the work is tiring, the output is so rewarding. That's all from me. Thank you.” Said Nik Ilham Zulaikha Bt Nik Mohd Zamri, the programme manager of Stirring Up the Ramadhan Spirit: Bubur Lambuk 2024.

All in all, being a part of this great event, which was one of the biggest collaborative programmes held during Ramadhan at IIUM, was overall a really enjoyable and wonderful experience. I hope to join more volunteering programmes like this!***
