IIUM GOMBAK, 28th April 2024: The first ever The BENL Chronicle (TBC) Annual Grand Dinner (AGD) was held in addition to celebrating one year after its establishment on the 26th of April 2024. The programme was held at CiTRA Seminar Room 2 from 8.30 PM to 10.30 PM.
The event starts with a beautiful and insightful opening speech by the TBC advisor, Dr Homam Altabaa. According to Dr Homam, TBC exists as a progressive platform and as a need for Bachelor of English Language (BENL) students to practice writing and develop critical thinking.
Emulating the success of IIUM Today, TBC acts as an independent platform for BENL students to practice their critical skills in writing, boost their confidence level, enhance their managerial skills, and many more, as it has been proven beneficial for past students and hopefully to aspiring future writers, said Dr Homam. The students will gain more real, hands-on experiences that can be applied to their professional lives later. TBC members have accumulated more than 70 people, which makes it a successful student platform since its establishment.
The event continues with the awards ceremony handled by Dr Homam for the best and most contributing writers from different sections. In which Sister Darwina Natasha was awarded with the title of Best News Writer, Nurul Aleeya as Best Feature Writer and Brother Muhamaad Harith as Best Editor.

Heartwarming speeches were given by Sister Dhiya Damia and Sister Nik Liyana as TBC has achieved many amazing milestones through its established visions and missions in creating a dynamic platform that empowers students to reach new levels. Since its launching on the 22nd of May 2023, the platform continues with its first writing workshop and first creative writing competition. Within the first four months, TBC managed to achieve many great accomplishments.
The platform has managed to reach and produce more than 300 articles now. This achievement is followed by the organisation of many programmes such as the induction day, which is TBC’s first face-to-face programme, and TBC booth participation during FIESTALITS in December. Many challenges that TBC had to go through during the first year of its establishment have shaped the platform into how successful it is now.
The programme continues with the introduction of a new line-up by Sister Damia with the appointment of new managers such as public relations, social media manager, website manager and many more. The event then proceeded to the grand dinner followed by a photography session at the end, with all participants and the newly appointed mainboard line-up.***
