IIUM, GOMBAK, 22nd Nov 2024: During the convocation day at International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), an event was held for three days which was brought to every single student located at the middle square of Abdulhamid Abusulayman Kuliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences (AHAS KIRHS) in IIUM by the Society of English Language and Literature (ELITS). Starting from 19th Nov 2024 until 21st Nov 2024, this event held numerous colourful and joyful activities to all students and even lecturers within these three days. Ranging from student exhibitions, booth stalls that sell a variety of foods, beverages and clothing, movie screening that showcases both movies, Into the Woods and Alice through the Looking Glass, “Wise Man Say” where students speak out their poems and written literature, Alumni Unplugged and many more.

As a three days event, FIESTALITS uniquely held the event by setting up different “Theme of The Day” (TOTD) for each day, which were “Hogwarts: The Wizarding World”, “Forest Fairies and Royalties” and “Villains and the Misunderstood”. Within these three days of TOTD, every student seems excited to showcase their excitement in wearing costumes and their creativity in fashioning themselves into such a theme. Uniquely, the clothing of the president of ELITS herself, Sr. Shahirah, during the first day of the event was inspired by “Salazar Slytherin House” in Harry Potter where the colour green and the symbol of the “house” is printed on her green scarf.

Meanwhile, during the journey of the event, students can be seen to be happy when they saw a lot of booth stalls that were opened during the event such as FIXI Bookshop, Kopi Saigon, Photobooth, Brew and Blossom Café, and many other famous stores. On the second day of FIESTALITS, the program Alumni Unplugged 2.0 was held, featuring Ms. Farah Liyana, an author and a local Malaysian artist. This program is a glimpse into the writing industry where the program was held in a talk session between Ms. Farah and Sr. Asmaa, both discussing and covering the topic of publishing, writing, art etc.

On the third day of the event, the closing ceremony was held to officially close the event. Nonetheless, the event was held interactively with the participants, by integrating games and educational booths where students could learn while entertaining themselves with the prepared activities by the committees of FIESTALITS. This memorable event was captured into their own personal social media platform, which is on Instagram, namely @fiestalits24, where students could receive updates and perhaps find their pictures and videos of their memorable moments in FIESTALITS Instagram too. Towards the end, everyone was so fulfilled and happy with their experience within this 3-day event and hopefully, ELITS may hold another round of such events in the future. —TBC
