Youth Research Seminar 3.0: Insights from BENL Students' FYP Research

GOMBAK, 23rd June 2024: On the 21st of June, The Secretariat of English Language and Literature (ELITS) provided a platform for final-year BENL students to share their Final Year Project (FYP) research through a seminar called ‘Youth Research Seminar 3.0: Contemporary Studies in English Literature.’


The seminar was conducted online via Microsoft Teams at 3:00 p.m. with opening remarks by the Head of Department of English Language and Literature (DELL), Dr Tanja Jonid. She expressed her delight at seeing that this seminar was successfully organised for the third time. She also hoped that this programme would inspire BENL students to get research ideas, especially for those who will undertake FYP in the upcoming semester. 


Dr Homam, the advisor of ELITS, was also in attendance at the seminar.

Following the speech by Dr Tanja Jonid, Nik Sofia Qistina as the moderator welcomed the first speaker, Dhiya Damia to present her FYP research etitled Psychoanalysis of the Heroine’s Journey in Mother Holle.

Dhiya Damia: Psychoanalysis of the Heroine’s Journey in Mother Holle. 

Nik Liyana: Genre Reflections in Poetry: The Passionate Shepherd to His Love and its Pastiches

Siti Sarah Sofea: Pinocchio: A Comparative Archetypal Analysis of Collodi’s Original and Del Toro’s Adaptation

Nurul Nabihah: Religious Elements in Selected Poems of Mahmoud Darwish

Ha Mi Da: Universal Themes through the Hero’s Journey in the Tale of Kieu: An Archetypal Reading

Izzah Husna: Reclaiming the Female Narrative through Contemporary Writing: An Analysis of Carol Ann Duffy’s Selected Poems


Each speaker introduced their selected literary works and gave an overview of the historical and cultural contexts. They also explained the analytical approach they adopted and revealed their findings. 


The seminar ended at 5:00 p.m. with a photography session with all participants involved. All of the speakers offered valuable insights through their presentations and it is hoped that BENL students will feel more acquainted with studies in English literature.***
